The Bremer County Bucks are the 2007 Iowa Rugby League Champions.  Hosting the Cedar Rapids Headhunters they played a hard fought game and came away with a 36-10 victory.  Jesse Sathre, Eric Wickham, Eric Prior, and Jody Fisher all had a try for the Bucks and Brett Behrends had two.  The Bucks will host a first round Midwest Regional playoff game next weekend, while the Headhunters who also qualified for the playoffs will travel to Peoria.
The bright spot for the Cedar Rapids Headhunters was the play of Patricio "the mongoose" Rabellino.  Patricio is a fifteen year old boy from Uruguay who joined the Headhunters last spring at the age of fourteen. He came off the bench early in the game when Tony Siemering suffered a laceration on his right ear.  Patricio scored one of only
two trys by the Headhunters.  He also proved to be a relentless tackler throwing himself at the legs of men twice his age and almost three times his weight.  After the game this boy of fifteen was named man of the match for the Cedar Rapids Headhunters.  Patricio played growing up in Uruguay and will be the cornerstone of the Cedar Rapids under 19 team that will launch this spring, as he has more game experience than ninety percent of the current men's team whose oldest members are in their forties.
The only other try for the Headhunters was scored by Randy Salow.  After the Salow try the score was 17-10 in the second half.  Momentum was shifting the Headhunters way when Behrends scored two break away trys for the Bucks within minutes of each other.  That was a blow the Headhunters could not recover from.
The Headhunters held their heads high after the game. Coach Lee Boleyn said, " We were beaten by a better team today, so we move on to our next challenge at Peoria, and try to become a better team."  The Iowa League is considered the best league in the Midwest's Western half.  The Headhunters hope to extend their season well into the playoffs.  "You never know, if we do well enough we might get another shot at Bremer County in the spring, and then it will be for a trip to nationals," added captain Brent Shepherd.
